FaceBook On your Balckberry comming soon

College parties met business e-mail on Wednesday as Facebook Inc. said it is adding its social-networking platform to Research In Motion Ltd.'s BlackBerry devices.


T-Mobile USA Inc. will be the first carrier to build a Facebook application into the BlackBerries it sells, but BlackBerry users on any network will be able to download the application starting later Wednesday, Facebook Co-Founder and Vice President of Engineering Dustin Moskovitz said in a keynote address at the CTIA Wireless I.T. and Entertainment show in San Francisco.

Cell phone the anti train gropers

TOKYO - Did you just grope me? Shall we head to the police? That's the message women are flashing on their cell phones with a popular program designed to ward off wandering hands in Japan's congested commuter trains.


"Anti-Groping Appli" by games developer Takahashi was released in late 2005 but has only recently climbed up popularity rankings, reaching No. 7 in this week's top-10 cell phone applications list compiled by Web-based publisher Spicy Soft Corp.

Mobile phone use backed on planes

Passengers could soon be using their mobile phones on planes flying through European airspace.

Plans have been developed across EU countries to introduce technology which permits mobile calls without risk of interference with aircraft systems.

Regulators around Europe are calling for consultation on the potential introduction of the technology.

If given the go ahead, the service would allow calls to be made when a plane is more than 3,000 metres high.

Good news for Iphone junkies, techies and developers

Apple to open iPhone for developers

SAN JOSE, Calif. - In an apparent about-face, Apple Inc. will allow third-party applications to work directly on the iPhone, Chief Executive Steve Jobs said in a posting on the company's Web site Wednesday.

Apple infuriated developers and some iPhone users when it issued a software update Sept. 27 that disabled unofficial programs installed on the handsets.

Nokia signs up Telefonica for mobile Internet deal

HELSINKI (Reuters) - The world's top cell phone maker Nokia announced on Tuesday a global deal with telecom group Telefonica, its first operator client for the new Internet services portal Ovi.

Nokia said it would add to its phone menus links to both -- its own Internet services and to the ones of Telefonica.

Digital Divide is Being Narrow By Cell Phones Use

Increased computer usage and better e-mail and Web access may narrow the digital divide, although globalization critics may perceive such changes as a threat to local cultures and economies, a new Pew Research Center study suggests.

The globalization survey released last week by Pew Research Center said that while technology inequality between countries has lessened, an ongoing backlash threatens globalization.

Technology plays a key role in the larger concept of globalization, said Richard Wike, senior researcher with the Pew Global Attitudes Project, part of the Pew Research Center, based in Washington, D.C. Computers and cell phones bring help people to connect people across borders and nurture better economic integration, Wike said.

Demand jump lifts Blackberry firm

Blackberry maker Research In Motion (RIM) has seen its second-quarter profits more than double on the back of surging subscriber numbers.

For the three months to 1 September, the Canadian firm made a net profit of $287.7m (£141m), compared with $140.2m for the same period in 2006.

RIM said the profit jump, which beat market targets, was helped by global users breaking the 10-million mark.

Blackberry is the market leader in handheld e-mail devices.

Appearing at a London Apple store for the UK launch of the iPod, Steve Jobs was asked about the rash of solutions for "unlocking" the iPhone, software and procedures that allow customers to use the device with a carrier other than AT&T.

"It's a cat-and-mouse game," he said. "We try to stay ahead. People will try to break in, and it's our job to stop them breaking in." Jobs brought down the hammer last week with firmware update 1.1.1, which turned cracked iPhones into very handsome bricks. More importantly, the upgrade disabled hundreds of third-party applications that users had downloaded.

So far according to this report you can install the previous version of the iphone with itunes ver. 7.3. This will allow you to use the Wifi and ipod features on the iphone. But the phone calling isn't available. Lets see how long it takes for hackers to come up with cracks for the new software version on the iphone. stay tuned for update.

Palm in red as iPhone grabs sales

The US handheld computer maker Palm has reported a three-month loss as the launch of Apple's iPhone hit sales of its own smartphones.

It made a net loss of $841,000 (£412,000) between June and August, compared with a profit of $16.5m in the same three months of 2006.

Looks like Palm is the first to suffer the effects of the iphone. Apple is successfully musceling into the smartphone business. Will they release low end models to break into the general market as well is the next question.
